A diaphragm monitoring system, which features double diaphragms, performs two essential tasks in industrial settings. First, it protects the measuring instrument from hazardous liquids and gases. Most industrial processes use substances that can cause instruments to break or fail prematurely, including:

• Hot liquids and chemicals

• Corrosive gases

A diaphragm seal protects the internal mechanisms of gauges and instruments and prevents clogging. It also prevents fugitive emissions that create environmental hazards.

Over time, even limited exposure to corrosive substances can damage instrumentation and gauges. With a diaphragm seal in place, the delicate sensors inside a gauge need never come in contact with hot, viscous, contaminated, or corrosive media.

Diaphragm Monitoring System: The Double-Diaphragm Advantage

Unfortunately, corrosive substances can wear down the toughest diaphragm, risking spills, leaks, and inaccurate pressure readings. That's why WIKA developed the diaphragm monitoring system. It works like this: There's a hard vacuum between the two diaphragm seals monitored by a pressure indicator. If the vacuum is ever compromised, the monitor sounds an alarm alerting plant personnel to the problem. The alarm can be visual, electrical or acoustic, depending on the user’s preference.The secondary diaphragm goes into action, helping avoid downtime.
