Lawrenceville, GA – WIKA Instrument Corporation (WIKA) was recently awarded a grant to further enhance its ongoing participation in the Georgia Work Ready program from Governor Sonny Perdue. WIKA is one of only 29 Georgia manufacturers—and the only one in Gwinnett County—awarded funds for workforce training. WIKA utilizes the Work Ready program to strengthen its workforce and increase productivity.
Work Ready, a joint project between the Governor’s office of Workforce Development and the Georgia Department of Economic Development, is designed to help companies in Georgia improve their productivity and strengthen the state’s workforce through custo mized training. Funding for the project is provided by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
WIKA will be partnering with Gwinnett Technical College on the Work Ready program again this year. Gwinnett Tech conducts job profile assessments and advises WIKA on the implementation of those results.
Georgia’s Work Ready initiative is based upon a skills assessment and certification for job seekers and a job profiling system for businesses. By identifying both the needs of business and the available skills of Georgia’s workforce, the state can more effectively generate the right talent for the right jobs.
